  Who's Happy To Go Abroad and Drive on the Other Side?

  i do it most years.

  being in the uk, virtually every other country nearby drives on the right.

  we drive on the left.

  Here in the UK the Police tend not to use the term RTA (Road Traffic Accident) anymore, but use RTC (Road Traffic Collision). In the vast majority of cases, it is not an "accident" but someone is to blame, they caused the accident even though they never intended to do so. It could be a case of "dangerous driving" or "driving without due care and attention".

  I am quite sure that in the US if there is a collision and someone dies, is injured or there are no casualties, the police will investigate. The idea that this lady did not intend to cause the death of a young motorcyclist does not relieve her of any responsibility.

  Even if she is jailed, at least she will be released, this young man is gone forever due to her actions.

  New Resolution?

  had our midweek meeting last night.

  they had a resolution to send an extra (i wanna say $1100 but i only remember it was at least $1000) per month to forward the kingdom preaching work etc.. you know how they work in the kh...no one votes against anything.

  i abstained as i almost have always done.

  I think this is the case in most congregations, a quick resolution is read out and everyone is expected to raise their hand and support it. Many times the equipment being voted on has already been purchased and installed. However, the recent Accounting Instructions, S-42-b-E 9/19, show that the audience should be allowed to ask questions before the vote is taken:-
  

  17. Procedure for Resolutions: When it is necessary to present a resolution to the
  congregations using the Kingdom Hall, the collective body of elders should discuss the matter
  thoroughly and agree on the content of the resolution. The operating committee should
  prepare a written resolution for presentation at the midweek meeting in each congregation.
  The elder serving as chairman for the midweek meeting should briefly and clearly
  explain the need to the congregation and the recommendation of the body of elders. Those
  in attendance should be allowed to ask questions about the matter before a vote is taken.
  Voting on a resolution is done by a show of hands and is limited to those in the congregation
  who are baptized, unless legal requirements direct otherwise. If the resolution is approved
  by the majority in attendance, it should be dated, signed by the coordinator of the
  body of elders and the secretary, and given to the operating committee coordinator. The
  resolution should be placed in the appropriate monthly folder in the current file.

  This has certainly not happened in my congregation!

  Did You Know Any "Genuine"" Old School Anointed?

  growing up in scotland in the 1970s in scotland the anointed were few and far between, but we had one old dude in our cong who claimed to be one of the anointed.

  in the days when it was taken seriously.. i'd be curious how you viewed them.

  thing is, he wasn't an elder, or even a ministerial servant, just a plain old publisher.. but he was revered like he had a hotline to jesus.. the other week i was talking to a friend of similar age to me but who hung around the wt a lot longer than i did, and he just commented "oh him... he was a doddery old fool who used to just sit and piss himself.

  Yes, back in the 1950/60's when I was growing up there were four in my congregation. The oldest of them was a brother, born in the 1880's who expected to go to heaven in 1914. He worked full time to raise his family but once he retired he pioneered until his death in the 1970's.

  None of them were "whacky" in any sense of the word, just hard working and sincere people.

  I suspect the "new anointed" are somewhat different but I have never met any.

  Why are they buying names and addresses?

  apparently the jws of coventry, england, have been spending their congregation's money buying names and addresses from the local council.

  i wonder what they want them for and is this something that each congregation does?

  i'm curious now.

  A congregation near me were setting up a Spanish group. They asked for volunteers to spend time at the local library trawling through the Electoral Role to locate Spanish names. These properties were then specifically targeted with Spanish speaking witnesses carrying Spanish literature.

  I suspect this is something similar, buy the lists and look through them in comfort where the librarian is not looking over your shoulder to check you don't photograph the list to save paying for the information.

  that same brother (that's if he's still alive) has trashed his brief case along with that boatload of literature

  His brain has also gone the same way. No thinking is required at the meeting anymore, in fact it's positively discouraged.

  holy shit!

  i went to the meeting on thursday night to hear my grandson and my daughter give their "talk" on the misery school!.

  the very first part on the next meeting that follows the misery school was a 15-20 minute part, with a video of course, on the many ways to donate money to the wt!

  I wonder what ToMo III does when he gets tooth ache. A visit to the Bethel Chippie department maybe? They're bound to have a decent pair of pliers there! No need for a qualified dentist, we will have no need of them after Armageddon either.

  Likewise with opticians and doctors. When they need them they will be there, no three week waiting for an appointment either. They simply could not exist without University graduates.

  The hypocrisy of these people is beyond belief.

  How Much of the WT Teaching Did You Believe?

  some people on this forum have said that they never really believed any aspect of wt teaching, that they couldn't wait to get free of it all.. others seems to have been really gung ho, believing it all until something happened that got you questioning "the truth.".

  i would say my own high water mark was about 50%, which put me squarely on the fence, trying to decide if i should be in or out.. how about you?.
